You can tell a lot about someone by how they spend their free time.

I make homemade chicken stock all winter.

And grow a garden all summer.

And play with my kids in the evenings.

And make dinner for my family every night.

I still look at my screens too often.  I'm working on that....

I'm walking outside more than ever these days.

I really love the life I get to live.

And I love helping people wake up to the reality of God in their lives.

David Rice has been the Lead Pastor of Markey Church since May of 2014. His primary duties include preaching, teaching, casting vision and leading the staff, elders and leaders within the Markey Church community. He is passionate about connecting the Christian faith with ordinary and everyday life.

Prior to coming to Markey Church, David served churches in both Michigan and Indiana, working with adults, young adults and students. He also has many years of experience in the private sector working as a kitchen manager and chef for a variety of food service operations.

David holds degrees from Huntington University and The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology (M.div). The works of Wendell Berry, Walter Brueggemann, Barbara Brown Taylor, N.T. Wright and Eugene Peterson have had a profound effect on how he lives and leads as a pastor.

David is married to Wendy, the love of his life, since 2004. Together they make their home in Roscommon County, along with their two young sons, exploring the backwoods and waterways that lush Northern Michigan has to offer.

David loves to cook delicious food, grow lovely vegetables in his garden, sing and write songs, shoot photos, read a variety of books and watch Gilmore Girls with Wendy. You are as likely to find him wrestling with his two boys in his basement, as you are to catch him in the church office.
